Stay tuned

In this series, we will deepen our understanding of our role at the crossroads of white privilege/supremacy, internalized sexism and patriarchy. There is a tension here that we must name, feel and understand. As white women who are targeted by sexism, we get to look at the potential we have yet to step into where gender and race overlap. We must also be responsible and accountable for both our racial privilege and gatekeeping status. Topics we will cover are all grounded in a personal and professional context in service to racial equity in our lives.

Agenda Highlights

  • The first part of the training is focused on our experience of - and with - sexism, patriarchy and misogyny focused on requests for allyship in service to being more authentic and impactful allies to our BIPOC friends and colleagues.
  • The second part of the training is focused on our experience with white privilege and white-dominant culture, and accountable allyship/accomplice. This work is both personal and professional and invites bold risk-taking by following the requests and lead of our BIPOC friends and colleagues.

Topics are focused on personal and collective growth and action in service to racial equity. Topics include:

  • Strengthening our service to racial equity and community liberation.
  • Power with, not power over, requires us to know our power, to be powerful and to use our gatekeeping status for liberation.
  • Based on feedback and requests from women of color colleagues and friends, this training will explore how to ground into our personal power and share power more gracefully in anti-racism and liberation strategies.

Accountability

Our colleagues of color have asked us to host this training, and their perspectives inform the content. We are in regular communication with them to apply feedback.

The main ways I am trying to be accountable as a white person is doing racial justice work in relationship with people of color that I am collaborating or facilitating with, specifically women of color: Natasha Marin, Andrea Lising Paull, and Aparna Rae. There has been a specific ask for white women to get coaching around their management, and this series is a response to that need.

I lead a lot of white caucus work while being accountable to our colleagues of color. I've moderated 3 panels on intersectional feminism for the Day of Action centering WOC voices.

Organizations that I support that are led by POC are: Wayfind Legal, Nonprofit Assistance Center, Resource Generation, Social Justice Fund, JustLead, and Rainer Valley Corps.

White groups/colleagues that I go to or lead are: European Dissent, Non-Profit Anti-Racism Coalition and anti-racist white women for equity. I make mistakes often, I make amends imperfectly, and I am committed to living in integrity and in connection.

Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Real Rent Duwamish and women color progressive campaigns via OneAmerica.

A bit about how to select your ticket type below: there are a range of ticket prices offered to support us thinking about financial equity and access. Money is often taboo to talk about openly and as with race we need to practice breaking those social contracts that end up keeping oppression in place. The higher ticket prices make it possible to offer the sliding scale.

Questions to ask yourself before deciding on a ticket price:

  • Do I have access to financial resources?
  • Am I making more money than I need to live?
  • Do I come from family or inherited wealth?
  • Is my employer paying for me?
  • Am I an educator, medical staff, or essential worker?
  • Have I been impacted by an economic crisis?

No one is turned away for lack of funds. For real.

Folks of color are always welcome to join for free - please let me know you will be attending.

I learned that sharing this journey with others deepens my ability to be humble, vulnerable, and courageous. Fleur models these qualities in her conversations and workshops. Her humility, vulnerability, and courage sets the tone for me to access those same qualities in myself.

What I return to the most is the idea of 'connection, not correction' and the importance of leaning toward each other to do our collective work.

More than just a course

What you get after you complete - and even during - the course is community. This work of unlearning and learning cannot be done in isolation. So much of liberation, and specifically anti-racism work, is anchored in relationship, so we gather as a community (over 900 strong!) in several ways:

  • Monthly group drop- in free coaching calls to connect, share and stay engaged
  • Bimonthly cohort accountability series for continued learning and deeper practice
  • Email-based Google group, 'Reach for Connection,' to ask questions, share resources, etc.
  • Access to 1:1 coaching with me
  • Monthly rotating topics co-hosted with other community members to dive deeper into specific arenas
  • And more...
